Sometimes, when Stakataka's cubes blink at him like so many eyes, Gavin remembers the smell of burning flesh on the battleground of Mauville. He swallows bile and pushes the haunting memory aside.

"Wall off the tunnel," he orders, and it does.

This one appears to have less capability in its movements than the ones that had assaulted Hoenn during the war, but it rearranges itself in lesser ways and creates a barrier to separate one side of the tunnel from the other.

This could definitely have its uses...

The trumpeting cry of a Cufant echoes faintly from the side of the tunnel opposite Gavin, and he signals for the Stakataka to retreat. It folds in on itself, revealing the small elephant digging in the dirt.

"Magnet Rise."

The cubes lift themselves off the ground and reassemble, patterns of blue light winking on the walls.

When the small pachyderm erupts from the earth, its attack does not land. When it tries to attack with superpowered strength, the Ultra Beast protects itself. When it tries to escape, Stakataka blocks the way.

From there, it's only a matter of time before its foe falls and Gavin taps the slumped elephant with a ball.
